Spring Term Newsletter #25
27th March 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we reach the conclusion of the Spring Term, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the significant progress and collective achievements of our school community over the past few months. It has been a term defined by academic focus, collaborative spirit, and a clear commitment to excellence from both students and staff. It was a pleasure to welcome so many of you to our Parents’ Evenings. The feedback we received was overwhelmingly positive, with many of you noting the strong progress of your children and the supportive environment fostered by our teaching staff. These evenings are a vital component of our school’s success; the constructive dialogue between home and school ensures that we remain aligned in our efforts to support your children. Thank you for your continued partnership and engagement with school events. Beyond the classroom, this week also featured the Talent Show, which was a resounding success. The standard of performance was truly exceptional, showcasing an incredible breadth of talent across music, dance, drama and some entertaining comedy and skills. What was most impressive, however, was the courage and dedication required to perform. The atmosphere of mutual respect and encouragement amongst the audience was a testament to the strong values we uphold as a community. Lastly, I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to the teaching and support staff. Their professionalism and tireless dedication ensure that our school continues to offer a high-quality educational experience.
Values: In assembly we challenged each other to show courage in many different ways. We discussed how courage is needed in different ways for different people. The talent show was a great example of courage in action as many children shared their skills with such a large audience.
School Meals: A separate email has been sent to you all informing you of the increase in price from £3.00 to £3.15. The new pricing is in place for the summer term.
Shakespeare Workshops: After the success of the WonderDome, the Friends of Lanchester have funded another exciting and immersive opportunity to start the new term. West End in Schools will be hosting drama workshops for all classes based on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. Make sure your children are in school from Tuesday 14th April to take part in this fantastic opportunity.
We have staff training on Monday 13th April, so school will open to pupils at 8.45am on Tuesday 14th April. There are a host of activities taking place locally and lots of restaurants offering free children's meals over the break. However you spend the time, I hope you all relax, recharge and come back to school ready for a new term of exciting learning.
Best wishes,
Mr. Matt Morey - Headteacher

This week all of the children who entered the talent show and performed to the school are the values champions showing true courage to perform with confidence to a large audience.
Well done to everyone who took part!
Children’s attitude to learning has been recognised through the collection of dojo points, which are then totalled as house points across the school. Every child continues to show their commitment to being Ready, Respectful and Resilient, earning points for their house. Each half term the points are reset and a new competition begins. Carver came out of the blue to storm to the top having been last going into the final week! What a turn-around! Congratulations to everyone involved. Every point represents a moment of success this term.
Here’s how the points stand:
1st: Carver with 3127 (+602) points
2nd: Sharman with 3086 (+540) points
3rd: Alhazen with 3082 (+512) points
4th: Curie with 3079 (+545) points
Let’s keep up the great work and continue to support each other as we aim for the top!
Class News
This week in Reception the children have been busy writing their five sentence story based on the changes they made to our story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We have seen some fantastic writing from the children.
This week in Science, Year 1 have been learning about the inspiring work of Jane Goodall. The children discovered how she studied chimpanzees in the wild and helped us understand more about animals and how to care for them. To bring our learning to life, the classroom was transformed into a mini jungle! The children became researchers, exploring the room to find different types of monkeys hidden around. They observed carefully, discussed what they noticed, and began to think like real scientists.
This week has been a very busy and exciting one in Year 2/3. We started the week with a trip to St Luke’s Church, where the children took part in a range of engaging activities. They learned about the importance of Easter and explored the story of the Last Supper, helping to deepen their understanding in a meaningful and interactive way. As a great way to conclude the term, we completed our 'Cook well, eat well' cooking project which the children thoroughly enjoyed. They had the opportunity to assemble their own tacos, choosing from a variety of ingredients and creating their own unique combinations. The children had a fantastic time and were incredibly proud of what they created.
It has been an incredibly busy and productive final week of the term in Year 4! In English, the children showed off their writing stamina by crafting detailed independent recounts, while our History sessions saw them becoming detectives as they analysed various artefacts to deduce what life was really like during the Anglo-Saxon era. The hands-on learning continued in Science, where the students put their engineering skills to the test by building and testing different switches within their electrical circuits. After working so hard across all these subjects, the children truly deserve a good break, and we hope you all have a wonderful and restful time off.
It has been an incredibly productive final week for Year 5. In English, the students reached the culmination of our unit by completing an independent 'Hot Task,' producing well-reasoned discussion texts on topics of their own choosing. We also concluded our historical deep dive into Ancient Baghdad. Finally, our Art lessons saw the creation of some truly fantastic still-life sketches and paintings, where pupils successfully applied their new skills learned in Line, Light, and Shadow unit.
Year 6 have shown incredible resilience and aspiration during their assessments this week. We are so proud of their hard work, focus, and positive attitudes! It has also been an absolute pleasure sharing their successes with you during our recent parent meetings. Reflecting on the sheer amount of progress every child has made from Autumn 1 to now is truly inspiring. The children have shown exactly what they can achieve with determination. A huge well done to the whole class for a fantastic week!
There was no staff meeting this week as teachers were busy preparing for and delivering parents' evening. The leadership team mapped out the diary dates for the summer term and planned the content of the Inset Day which will include a focus on our use for formative assessment strategies across the school.
We hope you all enjoy the Easter break!
