Spring Term Newsletter #32
23rd May 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
Time flies when you are having fun and it is hard to believe that we have reached the summer half term already. Although this half term has been short it has been incredibly busy, packed full of learning opportunities. At this time of year, we always begin to look to the future and the next academic year. This week I have been with the Trust central team working on curriculum improvements for September and contributing to the Trust's next stategic plan. I have also been busy reviewing our provision and the best use of our team and resources. A letter was sent to all parents yesterday about some changes for September and I welcome your feedback (via the Google Form link in the letter).
Values: The focus on one core value for the half term has been beneficial and there is a sense that respect is embedding itself within the school. There is always room to improve and we will continue to revisit respect along with our other core values. The new half term will begin with ready as we ensure we are prepared for all that will happen in the final half term.
Votes for Schools: This week the class session focused on safety and the ability to ensure we are safe around sharp objects, such as scissors, kitchen utensils and broken glass. Children in Year 5 & 6 also considered the impact of knife crime. This is a topic the Junior Leadership Team members will explore in further detail when they join the Youth Ambassador webinar on Friday 13th June.
Sign Language: Mrs Kuczynska has been in to school and held workshops with the children in Year 2 and Year 3 this week. The children have really enjoyed learning the signs for the alphabet. All remaining year groups will have sessions after half term. If you would like to build upon this at home, Mrs Kuczynska recommends an app called Sign BSL which translates words into signs.
Next week is half term and there are lots of activities and events lined up in the local area. More information and flyers can be found at the bottom of this newsletter. However you choose to spend half term, I hope you relax, recharge and get some quality time with the people who matter the most.
Best wishes,
Mr. Matt Morey - Headteacher

Class News
We have been busy writing our 5 sentence story of ‘Policeman Lion’, we have seen some lovely writing from the children. In maths we have been looking at composing and decomposing shapes and the children have enjoyed making pictures with 2D shapes and having their friends guess what they have made. To finish off our topic on sunshine and flowers, the children have observed the changes in their sunflowers. We have predicted what they might look like when fully grown and have draw and labelled our predictions.
This week, Year 1 took a fascinating step back in time during their Victorian Schools Workshop. They spent the day fully immersed in the sights and sounds of a Victorian classroom. Pupils had the chance to experience what a traditional Victorian lesson was like and even played with authentic Victorian toys. It was a hands-on, eye-opening day full of fun and learning!
This week in Computing, Year 2 used Bee-Bots to explore early coding skills by creating simple, step-by-step instructions to move the robot across a grid. They learn to use directional language such as forward, turn left, and turn right, and begin to understand sequencing and problem-solving. These activities provide a fun and engaging introduction to algorithms and basic programming concepts.
This week, Year 3 were lucky enough to have Wladek’s mum visit us to teach the basics of British Sign Language (BSL). It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to begin learning an important and inclusive communication skill. The session not only introduced us to a new language but also highlighted the importance of accessibility and understanding in communication. A big thank you to Wladek’s mum for sharing her time and knowledge with us—what an inspiring and valuable experience!
Year 4 has had a fantastic week filled with creativity and learning! The children were thrilled to make their own Sumerian statuettes during their DT lesson, using their imagination to bring history to life. In Maths, they’ve been working hard to understand decimals and fractions, showing great perseverance and progress.
We’re so proud of their efforts this half term. Have a wonderful and restful break.
"Este semestre, los niños han estado aprendiendo la canción "La
Primavera" de los Pimopollos. ¡Les ha encantado y su pronunciación de
estribillos como "La Primavera" (sping) ha mejorado!
This half term, children have been learning the song 'la primavera by los pimopollos'. The children have been enjoying the song and their pronunciation of chorus words such as 'la primavera' (spring) has improved!"
After weeks of focus and determination in the lead-up to their SATs, Year 6 were rewarded with a well-deserved morning at Cassiobury Park. The children enjoyed a variety of sports and team games, making the most of the fresh air and open space. It was a fantastic opportunity to relax, unwind, and celebrate their hard work together. Well done, Year 6.
The team met to discuss some of the changes we will be implementing in September. We held discussions and reviewed elements of our provision and talked about the best approaches to make sure changes embed properly.
We agreed to use the Inset Day after half term to develop our understanding of Zones of Regulation so that we can implement this intervention across the school.
Congratulations to Louisa and Novera whose posters are displayed in the new wildflower meadow at St Mary's Church in the centre of town. The children were joined by members of the JLT and Eco Council as they watched the Mayor of Watford open the newly regenerated green space.
