Autumn Term Newsletter #5
2nd October 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
The beginning of October saw us all enjoying National Poetry Day. Many of the classes participated in an online assembly with inspirational voices such as Michael Rosen interacting and engaging with the children, which provided an excellent boost to our whole-school focus on writing. Speaking of writing, a reminder to all parents from Year 1 to Year 6 that we are hosting our next parent workshop this coming Wednesday. You are invited to join your children in class from 8.45 until 9.15 before joining Mrs Ansell in the school hall as she explains the writing sequence we use in class.
Values: This week, our value has been creativity: 'You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.' - Maya Angelou. In Celebration Assembly, it was wonderful to hear of the many different ways creativity is encouraged across our curriculum. Next week, we turn our focus to empathy and the words of Barack Obama 'Learning to stand in somebody else's shoes, to see through their eyes, that's how peace begins.'
Votes for Schools: 65% of children answered 'no' to 'Should e-scooters be allowed on roads?' with many children identifying how quiet and quick they are. Some spoke of personal experience with e-scooters in town. October is Black History Month and our discussion next week centres on the importance of children recognising themselves in stories and building a sense of connection: Do stories bring us together?
Community and Cultural Celebrations: We want our school to mirror the community we serve and we want a working party of staff and parents to help this happen. See the note below from Mr Sanderson for more details...
There's lots happening this weekend in town: Eat Smart, Live Well are holding a community event at St Luke's Church on Saturday, the park runs are on in Cassiobury Park and The Taylor Trek takes place on Sunday. Whatever you choose to do, have a great time.
Best wishes,
Mr. Matt Morey - Headteacher

Class News
This week in Reception we have been learning all about the harvest festival. The children showed a particular interest in how farmers harvest crops using a combine harvester and we discovered that all of the ingredients used to make a class favourite (pizza) were all harvested by farmers. We looked at how the dough was made, the cheese was created and how the tomato base was made. The children then had the opportunity to create their own mini pizzas to be enjoyed at home.
Year 2 are showing brilliant resilience this week as they tackle letter formation and fine-tune their handwriting skills. Mastering proper shapes takes real patience and we are so proud of the determination that the children bring to every lesson. Keep it up, Beijing Class!
This week in Year 3/4, we have been learning how to compare and contrast artwork from different times and cultures. We explored paintings by famous artists and carefully examined the colours they used, discussing how different colour choices can create particular moods and effects for the viewer. To put our learning into practice, the children used a colour wheel to identify the colour families in an artwork. They then carefully mixed paints to recreate the colours they could see, creating small colour swatches alongside their chosen artwork. Well done, Oslo! They have earned over 1500 dojos as a class and have chosen to celebrate by coming to school in their own clothes on Monday.
Year 5 have put in fantastic effort this week, demonstrating resilience and focus during our assessment week! Alongside working hard on their tests, the children have been writing atmospheric independent suspense stories in English. To celebrate National Poetry Day, we also explored this year’s theme of 'Wonder', creating our own inspiring free verse poems. In History, we investigated just how close the Vikings came to conquering Britain. Meanwhile, Science saw us working on a whole-class experiment using light and globes to discover how the Earth’s tilt creates the four seasons. Well done, Year 5, for such a busy and successful week!
Year 6 had another brilliant science lesson this week as both classes continued building on their knowledge of living things. The children demonstrated great enthusiasm while examining invertebrates, carefully comparing the similarities and differences between them. They then put their creativity and collaborative skills into action to construct impressive 3D models that highlighted their unique characteristics before presenting them to the class.
