Autumn Term Newsletter #6
9th October 2026
Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you to the many parents who joined us on Wednesday morning for our Parent Writing Workshop. The children always enjoy sharing their learning with you and it was really pleasing to see 48 parents join Mrs Ansell in the hall to find out all about our writing journey. There was a huge amount of information expertly delivered and the presentation slides are here, if you would like to take another look.
Values: This week, our value has been empathy. We read the story 'The Rabbit Listened' and discussed the importance of being there for our friends and peers. Next week, we turn our attention to responsibility and the words of Mahatma Gandhi 'The future depends on what we do in the present.'
Votes for Schools: Do stories bring us together? has split opinions 51% v 49%. Many children believed other platforms (sports, films) are more effective at bringing people together and perhaps we should read together more often to build better connections. Next week, we will discuss 'Is it easy to make healthy choices?' (Rec-Y4) and 'Should vapes have plain packaging?' (Y5-Y6).
Medical Tracker: This week we are launching Medical Tracker in school. This platform will improve our provision around health needs and accidents. If your child is injured at school, the paper slip that comes home will now be replaced by an email alert. If your child has a medical plan, you will also receive an email to ensure information is up to date and accurate.
Lunchtime Clubs: After half term, many of our incredible teachers will be offering a range of lunchtime clubs to children of all ages including: table tennis, film, languages and crafts. Clubs will be £1 per session per child. Sign up and payment information will be available shortly from the office.
Lego Donations: Lots of children are keen on Lego for wet-play lunchtimes and a potential new club. If you have any Lego you can donate, please drop it to the office.
Parents' Evenings: You can now book your slots through the Arbor app. Follow this link and click 'Forgot your password?' to set up your account. Support can be found here.
Community and Cultural Celebrations: We want still looking for parents to join our celebration working party. If you have any ideas or time, please complete this quick form to register your interest.
I think it is finally safe to say that the warm weather has gone and autumn has arrived! Saturday should be dry so get outside and into nature - the natural colours on show through autumn are incredible. Have a great weekend.

Every child continues to show their commitment to being Ready, Respectful and Resilient, earning points for their house. Each half term the points are reset and a new competition begins. Well done to Carver who retain the top spot this week.
Here’s how the points stand:
1st: Carver with 3271 points (+454 points)
2nd: Curie with 3131 points (+467 points)

Let’s keep up the great work and continue to support each other as we aim for the top!
Class News
In Reception this week, we have focussed on the traditional tale of Little Red Riding Hood. The children have thoroughly enjoyed discussing the various characters and their traits. Our favourite part of the week was designing our own baskets of treats to take to Grandma. This has promoted a love of reading within the classroom and the children independently taken books from the reading corner when they finished their learning and enjoyed sharing stories with their friends.
Year 2 have had a fantastic time learning to play the Djembe drums in their music lessons with Mrs Stead-Mills. They’ve been mastering different techniques- learning to make deep bass tones and sharp rim slaps while practicing steady beats and call-and-response rhythms together. We're so proud of their focus and enthusiasm- keep it up, Beijing Class!
This week in RE, Year 3/4 have been learning about Hinduism and the birth and life of Krishna. We explored three famous adventures from Krishna’s childhood, including Makhan Chor, Krishna and Kaliya the Serpent and Krishna and Govardhan Hill. The children were fascinated to discover the exciting adventures Krishna experienced from a young age and enjoyed discussing what happened in each story. We looked beyond the adventures to explore the moral and important messages behind each story, thinking about qualities such as bravery, kindness, courage, protection and standing up for others.
In English this week, the children wrapped up our suspense topic by editing, improving and beautifully publishing their independent writing. In Maths, we focused on addition and subtraction with numbers greater than 4 digits. Our Design and Technology lesson saw the children take their collaging topic to the next level by learning how to stitch and sew different materials together. The absolute highlight of our week was Thursday's hands-on Viking workshop, which truly brought our History topic to life!
This week, Year 6 braved the rain showers to become plant detectives during their Science fieldwork at Cassiobury Park! Armed with their observation skills, the children carefully examined the key features of different plants and trees, using identification keys to identify a variety of species. They also collected samples to bring back to school, where they will put their scientific knowledge to the test by creating their own branching classification keys. A fantastic opportunity to bring our learning about living things and their habitats to life!
