Autumn Term Newsletter #13
12th December 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
The festive feelings have definitely arrived in school this week. The wonderful Christmas Fair last weekend coupled with the incredible Year 2/3 nativity shows has brought us all together creating a real sense of community and celebration. I had the privilege of watching all three nativity shows and it was a joy to see the children deliver their lines and sing their songs with such confidence. I am so proud of them all for their courage and confidence to be up on stage and have a go. A special thank you to the families for attending and supporting the children. I also want to thank the Year 2/3 team who put it all together whilst continuing to teach a broad and balanced curriculum.
Values: Courage has been our focus this week. We have seen it on stage but we have also talked about the strength to own up to our choices and accept responsibility for outcomes. Courage comes in many forms and I have been pleased to work with individuals this week to make brave decisions. Next week, we turn our attention to reflection as we review our journey through autumn term and prepare for the festive break.
Votes for Schools: Discussed 'Parasocial friendships' this week considering the connection we can feel with celebrities and heroes who we do not really know or ever meet. There were some powerful reflections from older children about the influence of role models on their wellbeing. Younger children explored the idea of imaginary friends. Next week, appropriately in the run up to Christmas, we consider the question 'Are you ever too old for toys?'.
SEN Support: We are a school within DSPL9 who offer a range of services to support all families but particularly those with SEN. The link to their most recent newsletter can be accessed here.
Flu Season: It is that time of year and there are a few different viruses and bugs in school at the moment. Please remind children to wash their hands regularly and to catch those sneezes and coughs. Good sleep, plenty of water and a healthy diet can help to support their immune systems and keep everyone healthy.
I am off to have breakfast with Santa this weekend (with my children) and putting the finishing touches to our Christmas tree. However you choose to spend your weekend, I hope you all enjoy some relaxing quality time with friends and family.
Best wishes,
Mr. Matt Morey - Headteacher

Children’s attitude to learning has been recognised through the collection of dojo points, which are then totalled as house points across the school. Every child continues to show their commitment to being Ready, Respectful and Resilient, earning points for their house. Each half term the points are reset and a new competition begins. This week Curie have retained their lead. Congratulations to everyone involved. Every point represents a moment of success this term.
Here’s how the points stand:
1st: Curie with 2,489 points (+446 points)
2nd: Alhazen with 2,449 points (+475 points)
3rd: Carver with 2,401 points (+487 points)

Let’s keep up the great work and continue to support each other as we aim for the top!
Class News
This week in Reception the children have been busy learning to transcribe our 5 sentence story of Baby Cat. We have seen the children use their phonics knowledge to write. In maths we have continued consolidating our learning from this half term and the children have shown a deep understanding of what they have learned. We have also been busy practicing our singing for our performance with Year 1 next week.
This week, Year 1 explored how our environment changes across the four seasons. The children used their knowledge to create colourful seasonal tree calendars, showing how trees look in spring, summer, autumn and winter. They worked with great creativity and enjoyed sharing what they had learned.
In Year 2/3, we wrapped up the week on a real high with our incredible nativity performances! Every child shone on stage, they stepped into their roles with confidence and truly embodied our value of the week: courage. It was inspiring to watch them come together as a team, helping each other with lines, actions and songs. The energy, teamwork and festive spirit made it a performance to remember. We are incredibly proud of them all!
It has been a productive week in Year 4! The children have shown great independence in English, successfully planning and writing their own recounts. In Maths, our focus remains on mastering the 11 and 12 times tables and their related division facts. We also revisited our Science experiment, closely examining the eggs submerged in different liquids last week to observe any reactions or changes. Finally, we were delighted to take part in a knowledgeable HSBC workshop led by a parent, which provided the class with a fantastic introduction to financial skills.
This week, Year 5 was incredibly productive, with pupils in full swing writing their independent explanation texts on topics of their choosing, demonstrating strong research and writing skills in English. In Maths, the focus was on mastering the skill of adding and subtracting fractions, tackling both same and different denominators. We also explored the concept of happiness and emotional expression in RE, concluding with a memorable moment of expressive dance that had us all crying with laughter. Our learning peaked in Science, when we investigated air resistance by making paper parachutes and conducting an experiment, timing the fall of a paperclip with and without the parachute to observe the effects of air resistance.
Year 6 have been learning about Ancient Greece through art and design. Using clay, the children carefully shaped and decorated their own Greek-style vases, taking inspiration from traditional shapes and patterns, resulting in work that the children were proud to create.
With a lot of poorly teachers in school, we took a wellbeing week and cancelled our staff meeting. I spent the time putting together the spring term diary with the leadership team ensuring we have a robust CPD offer for the team in 2026.
Thank you to everyone who came to our Christmas Fair on Saturday and to all of those who volunteered. We’re still adding it all up properly but we look to have raised around £2,500 which is great. If you volunteered at all, please do check whether your organisation can support us with match funding. It’s a really easy way for us to hugely increase our total fundraising.
We’ve had a great time in Elfridges this week. It’s been lovely to see all the excitement from the children when choosing their gifts. A massive thank you to our helpful elves volunteers and to so many of you for setting it all up and making wrapping paper pockets for us. We really can’t run events like these without all of your support!
