Spring Term Newsletter #23
7th March 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been an enjoyable week of enrichment in school with so many opportunites available across the school: there have been PE exploration lessons where children tried fencing and lacrosse; World Book Day has seen Year 6 watch Matilda at St Clement Danes, Year 1-3 visit West Herts College to view The Beano and today we have enjoyed a visit from the poet, Daniel Thompson. It has been great to see the children's enthusiasm for reading and hear their recollections of the week with their friends.
Values: This week we considered the importance of 'empathy' and how we could try to imagine what is must be like to be someone else. Our values champions were celebrated in assembly for their care for their friends and classmates throughout the school day. Next week, our value is 'creativity' and we consider the words of Maya Angelou - 'You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.'
Votes for Schools: This week we considered 'Would you like to start your own business?' listening to the ideas of the children and considering who might be an entrepreneur of the future! Next week, we will explore 'Would you go to a local youth club?' (KS1) and 'Would you use a local youth space?' (KS2).
Parents' Evening: These will be taking place on Monday 24th March and Wednesday 26th March. We are using different software to book appointments this term. More details will be shared over the coming days.
The forecast says sunshine and warm! No excuses this weekend: get outside, get to the park, the garden, the town centre! Whatever you choose to do, have a great weekend.
Best wishes,
Mr. Matt Morey - Headteacher

Congratulations to Cairo for achieving an excellent attendance rate of 99.4%, and New York in second with 99.2%. These results highlight our collective dedication to education and growth. Let's continue this momentum and strive for even higher attendance rates across all classes in the coming months!

Class News
This week in Reception we have continued to immerse ourselves in the story of Jack and the Beanstalk through play. We have created our story map during our literacy lesson and have enjoyed acting out the story. In maths we have started looking at the concept of time. The children have loved looking at pictures of their peers as babies and discussing the changes that have happened to them over the 4-5 year time period. The week also finished in style with a dinosaur visit.
This week, Year 1 have been busy following their story map and instructions to create a special fairy mix as part of their English unit, How to Catch a Fairy. The children loved the immersive experience and are eagerly waiting to see if their mix will work! Through this activity, they have been learning the importance of time conjunctions to sequence instructions correctly. It has been a magical and engaging way to develop their writing skills!
It's been such a busy week for Year 2. We have finished it off with an engaging Science lesson about the importance of good hygiene. Using special gel we conducted an experiment where children were able to observe under UV light how the hands look when they have not been washed properly. We have learnt that the areas between fingers, under the nails and around the wrists are often omitted and therefore need more attention when we wash our hands.
Following on from our recent visit to The Living Rainforest, Year 3 have been learning about one particular rainforest animal- the sloth! They have written some informative fact files and created their very own sloth art using wax crayons and watercolor paints. Thank you again to all the parents who have come along to our parent expo after school today!
As part of World Book Day, Year 4 participated in a range of fun and engaging activities. The children enjoyed taking part in live quizzes and lessons, which allowed them to showcase their knowledge and passion for reading. They also had the opportunity to design their own book covers, unleashing their creativity and imagination. In addition, the children learnt how to create comic strips and put their new skills into action by making their own!The class also had the exciting opportunity to meet author Daniel Thompson! The children enjoyed listening to him talk about his books and writing process.
Year 5 have enjoyed world book day this week. They have engaged in some enthusing reading based activities. Some of these have included the designing of a book cover having only been given the blurb of the story, a whole school book swap as well as an engaging poetry workshop. The children thoroughly enjoyed the masked book recommender activity as well as having the opportunity to go in small groups to Year 2 to read to some of the younger children.
This week, our Year 6 students demonstrated tremendous respect while visiting our trust partners at St Clement Danes School for their production of Matilda the Musical. The children were wonderful ambassadors for our school, showing exemplary behaviour and genuine appreciation for the incredible talent on display. It was a fantastic opportunity to strengthen bonds within our trust community and inspire our own young performers.
The staff meeting focused on the upcoming assessment window and how we can ensure the children are all supported to access the assessments. We have put greater emphasis on using the scores to identify gaps in learning and address these in the following lessons. We have also begun to consider the planning for the summer term.
