Autumn Term Newsletter #12
5th December 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
It may have been a four day week, but we have managed to cram in a lot of learning and enrichment opportunities. The nativity rehearsals are in full swing and the anticipation is building before the performances next week. Our Year 6 football team entered a Watford FC tournament going on a four-game unbeaten run to reach the final. As runners-up to an experienced team, we were awarded the 'Be Ambitious' award for our skill and determination to succeed. Well done to all who took part and thank you to Mr Hunt and Coach Luke for taking the team. On Wednesday, I welcomed Richard Banham, vicar at St Mary's Church, into school to strengthen links with our community. He is hoping to attend a nativity performance next week and is keen to come back to work with us in the new term. Lastly, we finished the week with our annual pantomime trip to Watford Palace Theatre enjoying an energetic and interactive performance as a school.
Values: This week resilience has been our focus as we push forwards with our learning. We always encourage children to embrace and learn from mistakes and it has been wonderful to shine a light on this skill and hear children sharing their examples of resilience. Next week, we focus on courage (linked to resilience) and the words of Brene Brown: 'Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen.' Some useful words of wisdom for our young nativity performers next week!
Votes for Schools: This week's question has been 'Do you think disabled people's stories are heard?' in conjunction with International Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3rd December. Children explored the life story of Baroness Jane Campbell and considered where they see disability. Children recognised that many children's television shows are inclusive but there is still work to be done.
Christmas Fair: Be sure to be here tomorrow afternoon! There will be lots of stalls and activities to explore. I look forward to seeing as many of you as possible between 12 and 3pm tomorrow.
Wonderdome: The Wonderdome is in school for the first two days of term in January. Each class will spend time in the dome and use their visit to inspire their learning for the first week of term.
Have an enjoyable and relaxing weekend.
Best wishes,
Mr. Matt Morey - Headteacher

Attendance is a wobbly 92.4% this week. There are a few bugs and viruses in our community at the moment. It's essential that we all wash our hands carefully, catch sneezes in tissues and look after ourselves. Excellent attendance is vital for successful learning. Congratulations to Cusco who claim the top spot with 98.7%. Learning is cumulative and each lesson builds on the last.

Children’s attitude to learning has been recognised through the collection of dojo points, which are then totalled as house points across the school. Every child continues to show their commitment to being Ready, Respectful and Resilient, earning points for their house. Each half term the points are reset and a new competition begins. This week Curie have retained their lead. Congratulations to everyone involved. Every point represents a moment of success this term.
Here’s how the points stand:
1st: Curie with 2043 points (+558 points)
2nd: Alhazen with 1974 points (+543 points)
3rd: Carver with 1914 points (+590 points)
4th: Sharman with 1848 points (+603 points)
Let’s keep up the great work and continue to support each other as we aim for the top!
Class News
This week in reception we have worked on changing aspects of our class story, Baby Mouse. The children then had the opportunity to change the story with their own ideas on their very own story map. The children also had a fantastic time on their first school trip to the pantomime.
This week in Year 1, the children have been exploring enhanced provision linked to our Everyday Materials topic. They planned and created their own house designs using a range of materials, including cardboard, straw, and bricks. The children carefully selected materials based on their properties and worked collaboratively to bring their ideas to life. It has been wonderful to see their creativity and problem-solving skills shine!
This week in Year 2/3, we’ve been diving into the world of poetry and enjoying lots of winter-themed fun! The children began by creating short poems about Arctic animals, followed by a winter poem using their senses. They used powerful adjectives and exciting verbs to make their writing come alive. Everyone loved becoming little poets and proudly shared their wonderful creations. At the same time, the children have been busy boosting their singing and acting skills as we practise for our Nativity play next week. They can’t wait to share their performance with you all!
It has been a fantastic week in Year 4! In English, the children have successfully completed their innovative recounts based on the 'The Day I Met Mighty Aslan' model text, showing great creativity. In Maths, we are currently focusing on mastering the multiplication and division facts for the 3, 6, 9, and 7 times tables.
We also launched an exciting Science investigation to understand what causes tooth decay. We used eggs submerged in different liquids to observe the effects on the shell, which mimics our tooth enamel. To end the week on a magical note, the children thoroughly enjoyed watching the Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime!
This week in Year 5, the children have continued their 'Extreme Earth' unit, where they have developed their learning about the Earth's structure, plate tectonics, and volcanoes. They examined the costs and benefits of living in a volcanic danger zone. The children enjoyed debating the question: 'Would you take the risk?' and applied their knowledge to different case studies during their lesson.
Following our inspiring question-time panel with Matt Turmaine MP, Year 6 have been busy writing passionate persuasive letters about issues they care deeply about. Many pupils chose to campaign for a ban on the sale of noisy fireworks, highlighting the impact they have on people, animals and the environment. We will be preparing their letters for posting later this week.
At our training day on Monday, we began work on the staff knowledge for our new behaviour strategy which we will be developing ready for September 2026.
Some of the team were at Jupiter working with other staff across the Trust to improve their phonics delivery.
We had such a fun time at our Winter disco this afternoon. There were some brilliant dance moves! Thanks to everyone who came and for the amazing hamper donations!
Please do sign up for a volunteer slot and help us make these events a success. We currently only have a few people signed up for the Christmas Fair and we can’t do it without you! Sign up here:
